The Food for Life Partnership was launched by the Soil Association in 2006 after extensive discussions with the Government, local authorities, caterers' associations and numerous interested parties.

Kemi Atijosan, founder and managing director of Eagle Solutions Services Limited is an advisor for the Food for Life Partnership programme. ESSL schools have been winners of the coveted Food for Life 'School of the Year' awards in both 2005 and 2006. In 2008 two ESSL schools succeeded in becoming Flagship Communities to help transform food culture in schools across England. Other schools are working towards the Bronze, Silver and Gold Marks.

LACA is the professional body representing 1000 catering managers and suppliers who provide catering services to all sectors of Local Authorities in England, Wales and Scotland. Local authority caterers are responsible for providing more than 2.5 million school meals a day as well as civic catering and social services catering.

The Food Standards Agency is an independent Government department set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food. The FSA provides advice and information to the public and Government on food safety from farm to fork, nutrition and diet. It also protects consumers through effective food enforcement and monitoring.
